Pope Benedict XVI started tweeting at the end of his reign. It didn't seem to be something that suited his style and the result was a load of bland aphorisms, presumably drafted for his approval. The whole Twitter thing seemed to be an effort to humanise an unpopular Pope.
Now Pope Francis has taken up the challenge and his tweets will be watched with interest, particularly as he has put a premium on communication with the ordinary members of his church.
While I might have expected to react violently to Benedict's tweets, they left me cold for the most part. However I have found myself reacting to two of Francis's tweets already.
Interesting times ahead?
